Our front delts push stuff away, our side delts lift stuff out to the sides, and our rear delts pull stuff in. This means that building broader shoulders requires doing more than just the bench press and overhead press. For some of us, there's nothing better than putting heavy stuff overhead.
Clean Squat Press
Use compound, multi-joint movements to strengthen your deltoids. Focus on overhead pressing motions like dumbbell shoulder presses. As for reps, ideally, you want to use a rep range of roughly reps per set. And then, once you can perform more than roughly 30 reps per set in any of the exercises, you want to then progress to a harder variation that I provided for each movement. This allows you to continue maximizing growth over time. In one smooth motion, lift the barbell or dumbbell above your head to the point that your elbows straighten.
Here you are not just working your deltoids but also the upper arm , chest, core and even legs. You’ll likely use a large amount of momentum to move the weight as well. Experienced lifters know that shoulders grow well with some high-rep pump work in the mix. It can be great on its own, or as a second shoulder day 72 hours after one focused more on free weights and presses. Pair it with a non-stim pre-workout loaded with pump-friendly NO-boosting ingredients and go to town.
